BWC Survey Gives MCO Program High Marks
Ohio’s Health Partnership Program, which created the managed care program for workplace injuries, is a “national model” for treating injured workers and returning them to work in a timely way, according to the state Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC).
BWC reached the conclusion after reviewing the results of its latest surveys of 6,500 injured workers who have used the system and more than 10,000 employers. On a scale of 1 to 5, where 5 represents a perfect score, employers rated the quality of their customer service 4.10 and injured workers gave an average rating of 3.89.
BWC says the cooperation among employers, injured workers, medical providers and managed care organizations (MCOs) such as University Hospitals CompCare has made the system more fair, effective and efficient.
Last year’s BWC report card on the MCOs found that it now takes about 11 days from the date of injury for a first report of injury to be filed with the state, compared with 42 days before HPP was implemented in 1997. University Hospitals CompCare’s average on the report card was less than nine days, fourth-lowest among all MCOs statewide.
