Open Enrollment a 'Non-Event' for Existing Clients

For the first time in two years, in May 2000, the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) held "open enrollment" for employers to select a managed care organization (MCO) for the medical management of work-related injuries and illnesses.

Existing clients of University Hospitals CompCare did not have to do anything - no sign-up forms or phone registration - to remain with University Hospitals CompCare; it was a "non-event" for existing clients. By remaining with University Hospitals CompCare, employers continued to benefit from the organization's focus on customer service and return-to-work.

Employers continue to work with the same University Hospitals CompCare customer service representative and nurse case manager. This team approach ensures that the medical management and return-to-work programs are handled by University Hospitals CompCare professionals who understand the situations and needs of particular employers and their injured workers.

Open enrollment gives non-customers the opportunity to select University Hospitals CompCare as their MCO. The next open enrollment period will be held in May 2002. Exact procedures for the 2002 open enrollment will be defined and publicized by BWC early next year.
