BWC Picks University Hospitals CompCare to Manage Care for LTV's
Injured Workers
University Hospitals CompCare has been selected by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’
Compensation (BWC) to provide workers’ compensation medical management
services for all of LTV Steel Co.’s injured employees. University
CompCare’s involvement in the LTV cases began January 14, 2002.
With the recent closing of LTV Steel, which had been self-insured,
BWC assumed responsibility for administering LTV’s workers’
compensation claims, including making compensation payments to
employees whose injuries and illnesses do not allow them to return
to work at this time. In a recent letter to LTV’s injured employees,
BWC emphasized that the transfer of claims will not cause people to
lose benefit payments to which they are entitled.
University Hospitals CompCare makes a similar pledge: We will provide LTV
employees with access to high-quality, timely and appropriate
treatment and rehabilitation for their work-related conditions.
The transition will be as seamless as possible, and the medical
case management program will be of the highest quality.
We have assembled an LTV-specific team to enable injured employees
to talk with a customer service representative or nurse case manager
familiar with their situation and specific condition. Our provider
relations staff works directly with medical providers to facilitate
the billing and payment process. Anyone on our LTV team can be
reached by calling us at 1-800-818-7273.
Effective immediately, doctors and any other medical providers
involved with an LTV work-related claim should send all bills and
medical documentation to University Hospitals CompCare at P.O. Box 12778,
Cleveland, OH 44112 or by FAX to 1-800-654-3849.
LTV’s injured employees will soon receive information on the
transition to help them become acquainted with our organization
and the services we provide that are designed to help people get
better quicker and reduce their paperwork burden.
As part of assuming responsibility for the LTV claims, BWC had
to select one of the state’s managed care organizations to provide
the medical management services for those claims. BWC said it
selected University Hospitals CompCare because of its affiliation with
University Hospitals Health System; its well-established presence
and reputation in Northeast Ohio; the URAC accreditation of its
case management program; and its team approach covering all aspects
of medical management, including customer service, medical case
management and provider relations.
University Hospitals CompCare is pleased to be chosen for this assignment
and will work hard every day and in every case to fulfill our
shared vision with BWC to make the transition easy for LTV’s
injured employees and to facilitate the delivery of high-quality
health care services.
